Valbonne is located on the French Riviera in the heart of the Provence in the South of France. The medieval charming village offers many restaurants and specialty shops. Every Friday there is a market in the town centre. Valbonne is a medieval Provencal village between Cannes and Grasse, situated on the river Brague, 15 km away from the source of the river in Opio.
It is located in the department of Alpes-Maritimes, in the canton of Le Bar-sur-Loup. Valbonne, in Latin “Vallis Bona” means “good valley”.
This village is radically different from the majority of the Provencal villages. This village is in fact built on the basis of a strict construction plan that was created by the monks of the Lérins island. This island lies off the coast of Cannes.
The village is surrounded by fortified houses and has up to four entrances, one on each side. If you try to find your way through the maze of streets in the old town you certainly will pass the Place des Arcades, which dates from the 17th century, and the hotel de ville. You can also admire a beautiful fountain where horses and donkeys have been watered in the old days.
