Welcome to Villa Valbonne

Welcome to our sunny paradise in Valbonne!

How wonderful that you are here! After the journey, it is finally time to put down the suitcases, take a deep breath, and go enjoy the French sun. We are in love with this place ourselves and hope that you feel right at home here too.

To make your stay as relaxed and safe as possible, we have compiled this manual. Here you will find everything you need to know:

Safety & Comfort

A new environment always takes some getting used to. Because we want you to enjoy your stay without a care, we ask you to at least read the safety tips at the front of the folder. That way, you will know exactly what to look out for under the South French sun.

Taking care of the house together

We love sharing our home with you. Feel free to use the tennis rackets and all the equipment by the pool. We actually have just one small request: could you please put everything back in its original place before you leave? That way, the next guests can enjoy it right away. Also, please pay special attention to the parasols; please fold them up when you leave.

Handy tips & facts

Further on in the folder, you will find practical information to make your holiday just a little easier:

  • How the TV works (for cozy evenings indoors).
  • Information about operating outdoor lighting
  • Contact details of the GP (just in case).

Our manager Maria has probably already shown you around, but don’t hesitate to grab the map if you are looking for something.

We wish you a fantastic holiday filled with swimming fun, long evenings on the terrace, and unforgettable moments. Enjoy it – and who knows, maybe until next time!

Useful Tips – A to Z

Air conditioning

Low-noise air conditioning is available in all bedrooms, operated by remote control. Please turn off the air conditioners during the day! If you leave the air conditioners on and, for example, start doing laundry or drying, the power will definitely trip. Moreover, it is very costly and unnecessary to leave the air conditioners on during the day.

The air conditioning units are placed close together, so one air conditioner may respond to a different remote control. Never turn all three on to maximum cooling; the electricity in France cannot handle that (set one at a time to 20 degrees and then slowly lower one by one to a maximum of 18 degrees)!

Emergency numbers

  • Emergency number: 112
  • Ambulance (SAMU): 15
  • Police: 17
  • Fire Department: 18

Bathroom

Both bathrooms were renovated in early 2017. Please dry the glass wall with the squeegee after use, and wipe the floor in the large bathroom. You can control which shower tap to use on the side of the shower. (Pulling the pin out activates the hand shower, pressing it in activates the rain shower).
In the small bathroom, you can turn on the mirror light by running your hand under the mirror.

Bath towels and Haman towels

You can use these free of charge, but they must be left clean in the same place before departure. If they are not clean, our key manager will charge extra fees.

Bakery/supermarket

You can find the nearest (and good) bakery by turning right at the end of the park, going straight across the roundabout, and then immediately on your left.

The supermarket (Carrefour) is located a little further on the right (open Monday to Saturday until 8:00 PM and Sunday until 7:00 PM). You will find a large Carrefour at Antibes, at the entrance to the A8.

You will find specialty shops (an Italian delicatessen with fantastic homemade products), an exclusive greengrocer/jeweler with a very large assortment and specialties, a professional butcher (also a delicatessen), and a bakery at the central car park in the center of Valbonne. These businesses offer fantastic products at a matching price level. These shops are all open on Sunday mornings as well.

In the village itself, there are also nice little shops, such as an Italian specialties shop and a beautiful cheese shop.

BBQ

The Weber BBQ is at your disposal – it is located in the left cabinet of the outdoor kitchen. Please ensure you do not throw away the BBQ empty and clean in the outdoor kitchen upon departure.

Books

You are welcome to use the books in the library on the mezzanine to read during your stay. You can even take them home with you if you leave another book behind in the house.

Outdoor lighting

  • Floodlights on the terrace: in the hallway of the bedrooms on the left (don’t forget to turn them off at night!)
  • Terrace lighting: The button for this is located to the right of the fireplace.
  • Pool lighting: You operate this with the remote control located in the drawer in the hallway (see photo).
  • Garden lighting: To the left of the fireplace (bottom button)
  • Gate lights: a button next to the front door to turn them on (top button)
  • Please turn off all lights and close the gate at night (due to wild boars that are sometimes on the park).

Swimming pool lighting Villa Valbonne

Central Swimming Pool of Domain Val d’Azur

This swimming pool is an ideal meeting place for children. It is a large pool located approximately halfway towards the park exit on the left. There are designated parking spaces on the right side of the road. There are also some play areas here. These facilities are all free of charge for our guests. The black droplet grants you access to the large communal swimming pool.

Electricity

The electricity in France does sometimes go out. The switches are located in the garage, in the cabinet immediately to the left upon entry. If one is in the down position, you can flip it back up to restore the electricity. Never turn on the dishwasher, washing machine, air conditioning, and dryer simultaneously, as the fuses will blow immediately.

Electricity on the mezzanine. There is a switch against the low wall. If you have no power at the desk, flip the bottom switch.

Power Switch Library Villa Valbonne

Hair dryer

There is a hairdryer available in the house for you to use.

Garage door

This one can be operated electrically with the remote control hanging on a cord in the garage.

Lamps

The bedside lamps and separate outdoor lights (in the living room) are rechargeable. The charging cords for the bedside reading lamps are located in the nightstands. Please leave these back in the nightstand upon departure.
Lamp above the table – at the top of this candle lamp there is also a button with which you can turn on the spotlights.

Markets in Valbonne:

Provençal market – every Friday morning
Antique market 1st Sunday of every month.

Cleaner

When you enter the property, it will be cleaned. The house will only be cleaned again after your departure.

Tennis courts

The tennis courts are free of charge for our guests. Reservations can be made using the black pad located in the drawer of the table in the hall. The small key is for hanging up the reservation on the black pad. The drop is used to open the door to the court. Tennis rackets and balls can be found in the garden shed. Please return everything to the same place after use so that future guests can find it as well.

Garden

You might want to water the planters occasionally and spray the garden if they don’t do so naturally or sufficiently due to the heat. The gardener visits approximately once a week.

Dishwasher

Load the machine, add detergent and rinse aid, select a program, and press depart/stop. Do not select ECO, as that program takes almost 4 hours.

Please do not throw too much rubbish into it that could block the pump. There have been known cases involving handfuls of pistachios, etc. In that case, a repair technician will have to come and the costs will be charged to you. Ensure that plates and items placed inside are free of debris, as this can cause it to clog.

Departure

On the Saturday before departure, you must vacate the villa by 10:00 AM at the latest, unless otherwise agreed. The cleaners really need the time to get the house in order for the next renters!

If anything is broken or lost, you must inform Maria, the key manager, before departure.

Please take the following into account upon departure:

  • Air conditioning switched off, check all bedrooms separately
  • The BBQ is clean and is in the outdoor kitchen.
  • All waste has been taken away (you can deposit everything next to the tennis court).
  • Please return all beds and other items you have moved to their original locations. Cushions in the garage.
  • If you have rented linen, please remove it from the beds and place it in a pile in the living room.
  • Refrigerators are empty, including freezer compartments
  • The fireplace is clean
  • Please leave at least 1 toilet roll per toilet for the next tenant
  • Leave the shed key, tennis block with keys, house alarm, and pool light remote control in the left drawer of the table in the hall.

Heating

The house is heated with underfloor heating and electric heaters. Heaters: Open the plastic tab at the top right and regulate the temperature with the grey rotary knob. The on/off button is located on the right. The underfloor heating is operated using the special control panels on the wall.

Garbage

You can dispose of all your rubbish immediately after the tennis courts and on your right. Please ensure that all rubbish is disposed of on the day of departure.

Washing Machine & Dryer

The washing machine also has a handy turbo program to quickly wash some towels, for example.

Dryer: Clean the dust drawer from the door after use. This is easiest to do with a vacuum cleaner.

Wine cooler

This is locked for our own private use.

Home alarm

Unfortunately, there have been break-ins at the park in recent years, and (a long time ago) our house as well. Therefore, we have decided to install an alarm. You are not obliged to use the alarm, but below is an explanation should you wish to use it.

Alarm Operation

When you leave, enter the alarm code in the hallway: 1213. You will hear a beeping sound and then have 30 seconds to leave the house.

Upon entry, enter the code 1213 and the alarm will be switched off again.

at night

Alarm Button Remote ControlYou can also put the house under alarm at night, except for the bedrooms and the hallway. You do this with the small remote control.

Stand in the hallway of the bedrooms and press the button next to the i on the 1 dot (to the left of the i).

After 30 seconds, the alarm is activated. When you click on the ‘i’, buttons on the remote control turn red.

To switch it off again, press the green key on the remote control or enter the code 1213 on the box in the hall.

With the two dots to the right of the i, you put the entire house (including bedrooms) under alarm – handy when you are lying by the pool and have no view of the house.

Should the alarm go off unexpectedly, it will stop automatically after 4 minutes.

Important safety measures for the night

To ensure your safety and that of the home, we ask you to perform the following actions before going to bed:

  • The shutters: Ensure that all shutters are fully closed and that the iron bars are properly positioned everywhere.
  • The garage: Check if the rear door of the garage is locked with the two hooks.
  • The front door: Lock the front door and secure it with the two hooks.

House Rules

Furniture and textiles

We would like to ask you not to sit on the sofas and chairs with wet swimwear or sunscreen. Unfortunately, the pool water and oil can leave permanent stains on the upholstery. The outdoor furniture is, of course, perfectly suitable for the terrace and the pool.

Pets and smoking

Pets are only allowed in and around the house if agreed upon with us in advance. Additionally, we would greatly appreciate it if smoking is kept to a minimum indoors, so that the house remains fresh for all guests.

Cushions and parasols

The weather in the South of France can sometimes change unexpectedly. Would you please bring the cushions and parasols inside in case of rain (or when you leave the property for an extended period)?

Maintenance of garden and swimming pool

To keep the garden and swimming pool in optimal condition, a caretaker visits weekly:

  • The pool man comes once a week (approximately 30 minutes).
  • The gardener comes once a week for about one to two hours.

You do not need to be at home or stay at home for pool or garden maintenance. They have both worked for us for many years, so they respect your privacy and you can trust them.

Visit and relaxation in the surroundings

You are, of course, free to receive guests. However, to maintain a good relationship with our neighbors, large parties and gatherings around the swimming pool are not permitted. We ask that you be mindful of the noise level outside after 10:00 PM.

Safety at the swimming pool:

Please do not use glassware near the swimming pool. In the large cupboard in the living room, you will find plastic glasses specifically intended for this purpose.

The fireplace

Would you like to enjoy a cozy fire? You can purchase dried wood for this yourself at the local supermarket or gas station. The wood stock present is our private (dried) stock and is not included in the rental. We kindly ask you to leave the fireplace clean upon departure.

Use of the dishwasher

To ensure the dishwasher functions properly, we ask that you do not place items with soot deposits or coarse food residues in the machine. You will find a starter supply of dishwasher tablets and rinse aid in the kitchen cupboard. Should this run out during your stay, you may replenish it as needed.

Garage door

This one can be operated electrically with the remote control hanging on a cord in the garage.
